What kind of cloud/fog looks like bottle rocket trails?

they came in twirling pairs of 4 out of a tree line. and looked like the roping stage of a tornado. the location is on top of a hill and at the bottom is a lake with a steam to more lakes. located in madison wi at the end of northport ave. by the apts. look at arial map on mapquest.com or weather.com. i am a storm chaser and ive never seen anything like this and niether has my cousin.
