So I'm 26 yrs old and have to get my tonsils out...?

I'm scared beyond belief. The dr told me I had to have some of my soft palet removed because it is so thick and then told me "this is going to be the worst pain you've ever felt". I'm petrified so has anyone had their soft palet removed somewhat? Any advice??
